On April 17, 2004, a meeting was held in Sioux City, Iowa with hopes of bringing surgical technologists together from all over the state. During this meeting, the Iowa State Assembly of the Association of Surgical Technologists was formed, and was later officially chartered in May 2004 at the AST National Conference in New Orleans. Since then, we have continued to grow while offering surgical technologists in our state a voice and a feeling of empowerment through networking and quality educational offerings. The IASA membership is made up of well educated, highly trained, Certified Surgical Technologists who feel we need to work together to make our profession known. Most importantly, we feel that every patient deserves to have a Certified Surgical Technologist in their operating room and we will continue to do what it takes to achieve that goal.
